FSG Competition Blog

Short summary

A week full of milestones, surprises, and history-making moments!

We kicked off with final truck loading and last-minute car tweaks before a smooth (if slightly traffic-filled) drive to the event. Early scrutineering brought its usual mix of nerves and small hurdles: minor mechanical and battery fixes, a brief delay on driverless checks, and even a blown DCDC converter. But the team pulled together, getting the car fully ready for action and earning all the necessary stickers after EBS, DV, and driver inspections.

With scrutineering behind us, the real excitement began. We pushed through DV skidpad and acceleration, manual skidpad and acceleration, and autocross — celebrating historic firsts along the way. Belgium witnessed its first-ever DV Trackdrive, and for the first time in FEB history, we completed all manual events across all competitions. Of course, there were tense moments: emergency stops, misread cones, and the occasional forgotten LIDAR, but each challenge was met with teamwork and quick thinking.

Endurance day was the perfect finale. With the car prepped and drivers focused, we crossed the finish line cleanly, proving our preparation and persistence paid off. Awards and celebrations followed, including a well-earned second place in the Techsoft Simulation Award and a proper send-off at the Mahle party.

It was a week of highs, lessons, and team spirit — a season-defining competition that will be remembered for years to come.

Thursday 21/08

07:00 – Wake up and breakfast

08:01 – Get to the pits and start preparing car for DV skidpad

12:03 – Lunch

14:45 – First run DV skidpad: we started but went off road quite fast. Had to press RES. Going to check the data to see what went wrong

18:12 – Dinner

22:45 – Crazy 20 with Lander driving

Summary

The team spent the day preparing for the DV skidpad, but luck wasn’t fully on our side. The first run ended early after going off track, and the second went straight into emergency mode due to a forgotten LIDAR connection — an easy mistake under pressure. After regrouping, the team prepped the car for the Crazy 20, where Lander took the wheel to wrap up the evening on a fun note.

17:48- First run DV autoX: didn’t start, probably not seeing all 4 starting cones..

18:30 – Second run DV autoX: went quite good until the last corner… Car probably saw a blue cone as yellow and went off track

18:42 – Dinner

20:55 – Debrief & chill

Summary

The day kicked off with DV acceleration, where the first run gave a solid 5.511 s on safe settings before a stack crash ended the second attempt. Switching to manual events, Lucan delivered strong performances in skidpad (best 5.176 s) and acceleration (best 3.880 s). Later, during DV autocross, the first run didn’t start due to cone detection issues, and the second ended off-track after misreading a cone color. The team wrapped up with dinner, debrief, and some well-earned relaxation.
